ULD Dimensions and Weight Chart

Fifteen container and pallet types, compared on the numbers you actually use at the build-up position: footprint, usable cube, maximum gross, tare, and what is left for cargo.

Every row links to a page for that ULD with the internal section, door opening, floor-loading reference and the source each figure came from. Where a value could not be confirmed against a published carrier specification, the detail page says so instead of rounding it into a clean number.

Containers

Self-contained boxes: the section is fixed by the container itself.

Pallets

Open decks: height comes from the contour of the compartment, not from the pallet.

Common questions

What is the difference between AKE and LD3?

None in service terms — LD3 names the contour and section, AKE is the IATA type code stamped on the container. You will see both used in the same build-up instruction. An AKN is also an LD3 section but has a raised base frame, so its usable volume is smaller (3.8 m³ against 4.5 m³).

What are the dimensions of a PMC pallet?

243.8 × 317.5 cm, which is 96 × 125 in. The pallet itself has no height: the build is limited by the contour of the compartment, from about 162.6 cm (64 in) in a wide-body passenger lower deck up to 299.7 cm (118 in) in a 747 or 777 freighter main deck.

Why is tare weight sometimes given as a range?

Because tare belongs to the individual unit, not to the type code. Published figures for the AKE run from 58 to 120 kg depending on manufacturer and whether the net is included. The chart uses the more conservative single figure, and the detail page records the spread.

What is net payload?

Maximum gross weight minus the ULD tare minus its standard net. That is the cargo you may actually load, and it is the number that gets eroded when a terminal uses a heavier net or adds dunnage.

Look up any ULD in the toolSearch by code or alias, switch between metric and imperial, see the 2D section.
